The Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) offers emergency temporary housing assistance to renters whose rental unit was destroyed by the 2022 wildfire season.

Eligibility criteria for those affected by the fires include: 

  • Applicants must be a renter in New Mexico 
  • Your rental unit was destroyed by one of the current forest fires
  • The applicant or household makes under 80% of the average median income for each respective county

Potential Assistance includes:

  • Temporary hotel/motel cost at a New Mexico establishment
  • Three months of future rent and utilities
    • Assistance cannot be used for hotels/motels outside the state

A household that falls outside of this eligibility are encouraged to go to https://www.nmdhsem.org/2022-wildfires/ for additional resources. All New Mexicans affected by the wildfires are urged to register for FEMA individual assistance at www.disasterassistance.gov.

The New Mexico Environment Department is also offering full-service debris removal for residential properties in the Mora and San Miguel Counties.

Full-Service Debris Removal Program

This program allows all wildfire debris on residential properties in Mora and San Miguel Counties to be collected, safely removed, and properly disposed of by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with no out of pocket costs to property owners.

Forms

  • Right of Entry Permit (English) (Español): Property owners who have lost residential buildings in Mora or San Miguel Counties should complete this form to opt in to the Full Service Debris Removal Program.
  • Opt-Out Form (English) (Español): Property owners who do not wish to participate in the Full Service Debris Removal Program should complete this form. Completing this form requires that property owners coordinate the proper disposal of wildfire debris on their property at their own time and expense.
