About County Classifications
Pursuant to the November 5, 2024 amendment to Article X Sec. 1 of the New Mexico Constitution, county commissions have the authority to set elected official salaries; therefore, beginning with the 2026 classification, county elected official salary maximums are no longer included when the state determines county classifications.
