DFA awards funding to strengthen animal care in rural communities
SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) awarded $3 million in funding to 25 local governments across the state to support animal shelter facility improvements.
The funding will help ensure quality care and services for domesticated cats and dogs in New Mexico communities.
DFA evaluated applications using a scoring formula that considered project readiness, scope, and phase of development. The department prioritized projects that demonstrated immediate needs for facility improvements to support the animals under care.
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed House Bill 113 April 8, establishing the New Mexico Animal Welfare Program. The program provides a framework for ongoing state support of animal welfare initiatives focused on the care and sheltering of cats and dogs.
