NM911 GIS Data Standards

NM 911 maintains statewide GIS requirements and data standards to support consistent processing and use of location information within the NG911 environment.

Local GIS data is processed into the statewide NM 911 GIS data structure before being provided for NG911 use.

Current technical requirements, schemas, submission procedures and related guidance are available through the NM 911 GIS Hub.

GIS Data Submission

Local GIS and addressing authorities should use the NM 911 GIS submission process when providing new or updated 911 location data. The Earth Data Analysis Center (EDAC) at the University of New Mexico (UNM) provides geospatial data support services to the NM 911 Program. Under its contract, EDAC securely acquires GIS data from local GeoData Providers, verifies and validates submissions, and processes the data into the statewide master dataset.

The process includes:

  • Secure data submission: Local GeoData Providers submit GIS data through the designated NM 911 data submission process.
  • Validation and quality assurance: EDAC evaluates submitted data for compliance with NM 911 GIS standards, including errors, inconsistencies, and discrepancies that may affect data quality or emergency response.
  • Standardization and processing: Local data is converted into the statewide data model so information from different jurisdictions can be incorporated into a consistent statewide dataset.
  • Assessment and feedback: EDAC provides data assessment reports and supporting information to GeoData Providers to identify issues and support review and correction.
  • Distribution for emergency response: Processed statewide data is used to update PSAP map servers, supporting emergency response operations.
