Cash Control Bureau

The Cash Control Bureau ensures the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the State of New Mexico’s cash and investment balances. As a critical internal control function within the Financial Control Division, the Bureau performs statewide cash and investment reconciliations that support informed fiscal decision-making and responsible management of public funds.

The Bureau reconciles cash and investment balances recorded in the State’s accounting system with records maintained by the State Treasurer, establishes reconciliation standards for state agencies, and identifies and resolves discrepancies to ensure balances are accurate and timely. Through these efforts, the Cash Control Bureau safeguards state assets, prevents overdrafts, and helps ensure that funds reported as available are reliable and in compliance with state law.
